A Labour councillor caught with drugs in large quantity at a music festival has resigned as a councillor. Ishmael Osamor, 29, who is of Nigerian descent, pleaded guilty to having £2,500-worth of drugs, at last year’s Bestival event in Dorset. The Haringey councillor and son of a Labour MP apologised for the "unwanted attention" his case had brought. Osamor was sentenced to a two-year community order and 20 days rehabilitation, last Friday. The son of Shadow International Development Secretary Kate Osamor, was caught with ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine and cannabis at the festival in August 2017, nine months before he was elected as a councillor. In a statement to the council’s chief executive he said: It is with great regret that I am offering this as formal notice of my resignation as councillor, effective immediately. The Indonesian government has reportedly dismissed the technical director of   Lion Air  airlines and several of its technicians after the crash of one of its jets with 189 people on board. The Minister of Transportation,  Budi Karya  announced their dismissal at a press conference today, saying:  “Today we will replace Lion’s technical director with somebody else, along with engineers being in charge of and recommending the flight.”  It was not clear whether the removal was permanent or temporary, but the minister told reporters that the dismissal of the director would ease the investigation process, according to Detik news "All matters related to the investigation will be reported to the National Transportation Safety Committee and it will determine what's next to do," he said, in comments that were broadcast by Kompas TV.  According to air tracking service Flightradar 24, the flight JT610 operated by Lion Air, lost contact with the ground 13 minutes after t

One of African football’s most powerful figures has been banned from the sport for life for breaking bribery and corruption rules.   Ex-Ghana Football Association president  Kwesi Nyantakyi  broke conflict of interest rules, FIFA said.  Football’s world governing body launched an investigation after Nyantakyi was pictured taking $ 65,000 from an undercover reporter. FIFA fined Nyantakyi 500 ,000 Swissfrancs (£ 390 ,000 ). Nyantakyi was also vice- president of the Confederation of African Football and a member of the FIFA Council. He stepped down as GFA president in June after film of him allegedly accepting a “ cash gift ” was made public .   The film was captured by journalist  Anas Aremeyaw Anas  and BBC Africa’s investigations unit, Africa Eye, received exclusive access to the footage.

The Federal Government has confirmed a report, which ranks Nigeria first on the list of countries with high record of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS in the world.   The FG noted that local and international indications confirmed that Nigeria produces 30 percent of children born with HIV/AIDS globally. Minister of Health,  Prof. Isaac Adewole , told newsmen at the launch of a roadmap on implementation of the National Treatment and Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV/AIDS in Abuja on Tuesday, that the situation was worrisome and requires collective action of all stakeholders, with the support of global partners to correct the statistics.   The minister also confirmed that Nigeria has 3.1 million people living with the virus, out of which 1.1 million people have been under proper and timely treatment from government. A 5-year-old orphan was allegedly raped by a 35-year-old man in Benue state. Haruna Shauibu was allegedly caught raping 5-year-old orphan identified as Rukaya in Wadata, Makurdi. The sexual abuse left the girl badly injured. Haruna was caught in the act and the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Benue State chapter, with the help of the Police, arraigned and charged him to court. The victim was quickly taken to the hospital and commenced treatment immediately.

The Argentine striker fractured a bone in his right arm weeks ago while for playing in Barcelona 4 - 2 win over  Sevilla. Members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Rivers State have dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Federal Government and the Attorney General of the Federation to court over the continuous holding of elections on Saturdays. The applicants in the matter,  Chief Emeka Anyabelem, Elder Asonye Onwudebe, Felix Minikwu  and Chinedu Omesurum , said conducting elections on Saturday amounts to the violation of their rights to worship and disenfranchisement of other members of their church.   In the suit, PHC/2836/2018, the applicants prayed the court to declare that holding elections on Saturday, the worship day for the denomination, is a violation of the Seventh Day Adventist Church members rights.   The suit read in part: “A declaration that the applicants’ known day of worship being Saturday, they are entitled to their freedom of religion and worship on Saturdays unhindered or by any means, whatsoever, under the Constitution of the Federal Repub

President Buhari on Tuesday in Abuja urged political party aspirants who lost out in the primaries to remain faithful to the country and hold fast on integrity as there will be more opportunities to serve along the way.
