Oby Ezekwesili has just announced her withdrawal from 2019 presidential race saying she has opted to help build a coalition to defeat the All Progressives Congress and the People’s Democratic Party in the February 16, 2019 election. Explaining her action in a series of tweets this morning, she said the action was also prompted by an examination of the country’s electoral environment sequel to the 2019 presidential debate of Saturday, January 19, 2019. Senator Dino Melaye has beem slammed with a nine-count charge that borders on lying and resisting arrest. The new charges were filed after the senator fulfilled the bail conditions a high court in Abuja granted him on Friday. In the charge sheet, one Silas Omenka was named as a defendant in the suit filed by the police. It is unclear who Omenka is and the role he played during the 8-day siege laid to the Abuja residence of the lawmaker. The siege ended on January 4 when Melaye surrendered to the police. The senator had been accused of culpable assault. The police alleged that in July, his supporters shot one Danjuma Saliu, an officer in Kogi state. Despite meeting bail conditions, Police refuse to release Dino Melaye, set to re-arraign him on fresh charges

Despite meeting his bail conditions, the police have refused to release Dino Melaye, a senator representing Kogi west. On Friday, a high court in Abuja granted the Melaye bail on health grounds after about two weeks in detention. Yusuf Halilu, the judge, had granted the senator bail on health grounds. The bails conditions included presenting three sureties who reside and have properties in Abuja. The lawmaker met the conditions on Monday.   However, as of 7pm last night, Melaye was still being held in police detention. According to reports, despite the order of the court that had been served to police, they want to arraign him “on fresh charges” on Tuesday.   “His family has not seem him. Despite the above FCT High Court order of Friday and duly served on the Police, having met all bail conditions, the police are holding on to Dino Melaye as we speak now. A 56-year-old mother of five girls was left heartbroken when her husband suddenly abandoned her after 30 years of marriage, because she had not given him a son to continue his family name. Thembeni Khuboni from KwaMancinza in KZN South Africa, said her husband, Simon, started acting strangely early last year. Today, EFCC called former Minister of State for Defence,  Senator Musiliu Obanikoro  to testify in the trial of forner Governor of Ekiti State,  Ayodele Fayose  who was accused of money laundering to the tune of N6.9 billion. At Monday’s proceedings, EFCC prosecutor,  Rotimi Jacobs  called the fifth prosecution witness, (Obanikoro), to give his evidence. Leading the witness in his chief evidence, Jacobs asked him “where were you in 2014?” To which the witness told the court that at the time, he was the Minister of State for Defence. The prosecutor then asked the witness to tell the court what he knows in relation to the instant case. Obanikoro then told the court that in June 2014, close to the Ekiti State governorship election, he received a call from Fayose, enquiring from him, if there was any message for him, from the then National Security Adviser, (NSA) Col. The Benue House of Assembly has suspended six Local Government Area Chairmen for three months, over alleged misappropriation of public funds and gross misconduct. The House suspended the Chairmen on Monday during plenary in Makurdi. The suspended chairmen were that of Oju LGA, Mr Augustine Okwoche, Makurdi LGA, Mrs Justina Akange Audu, Kwande LGA, Mr Terdoo Kenti and his vice, Mr Aondowaser Andrew.  Others were the chairmen of Agatu LGA, Mrs Comfort Echoda and her vice, Mr Joseph Ngbede, Okpokwu LGA, Mr Francis Oguche and Gboko LGA, Mrs Becky Orpin. The house had received a correspondence from the State Governor, Samuel Ortom, accusing the suspended chairmen of misappropriating local government funds, gross misconduct and abuse of office. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, says he remains the police boss in the state despite earlier reports that he has been redeployed. Recall that reports were rife on Sunday January 13th that Imohimi had been redeployed to Abuja to take over as the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Explosive Ordinance Unit at the Force Headquarters. He was meant to handover to Kayode Egbetokun today January15th. However at the handover ceremony, Edgal told newsmen that the handover will not proceed as he has gotten an order from above to remain as the Commissioner. “I am sure that you know Mr Kayode Egbetokun, he is an old timer in the command. You all know that our first job is about order and direction. Political killings: Kano Police set to investigate lawmaker over alleged killing of three people

The Kano State Police Command is investigating a member representing Wudil/Garko Federal Constituency, Muhammad Ali Wudil, over alleged killing of three people in Rano local government area of the state. Recall that about three persons were killed during the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress, APC campaign in Kano South senatorial zone. In a statement on Thursday, the state police spokesperson, Magaji Majiya, said the command had gathered enough evidence against the lawmaker and would soon invite the politician for investigation and subsequent trial. According to him, Mr Ali-Wudil was advised by the command not to attend the political rally due to security reports against him but he refused to accept the advice. He added that the command had evidence that the lawmaker went to the rally with political thugs who are now accused of killing three persons at the event.

Wale Oluwo, the Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral resources, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect. Oluwo resigned from the APC shortly after also resigning from Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s cabinet. Protesters storm US embassy in Abuja, demand Atiku's visa application be rejected(photos)

Protesters under the auspices, Forum of Non-Governmental Organizations (FONGON), today staged a protest at the US embassy in Abuja, demanding that the US government must not issue visa to former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The protesters arrived the US embassy at about 12 noon, carrying different placards with inscriptions such as ''U.S.A stay clear of Nigeria's internal politics'', 'why now after 14 years' and many others. The Federal government has since expressed displeasure at reports that the US might give Atiku visa soon. Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, at a press briefing in Abuja last week, said the US would only be signally an endorsement of Atiku's presidential bid if they grant him visa now. Two more members of the House of Representatives have officially announced their exit from the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaker of the House of Reprsentatives, Yakubu Dogara, read letters from Ahmed Abu (Niger State) and Stephen Olemija (Ondo State) announcing their decison to defect from APC to the Social Democratic Party and the Action Alliance, respectively. The lawmakers attributed their defection to the conduct and outcome of the APC primaries in their respective states.
