An Italian town is offering new residents $10,000 to relocate and have a baby. Locana, a town in north west Italy, is experiencing a dwindling population and the mayor is offering cash rewards in order to attract more families back to the shrinking community. Anyone wanting to relocate to the Alpine commune in the Piedmont region could be paid up to $10,000 (€9,000) over three years to make Locana their home. Giovanni Bruno Mattiet, Locana's mayor, has made the offer in the hope of saving the community from dying out.  At first, Mattiet appealed to Italians or foreigners already living in Italy to relocate to Locana but the response was not encouraging, He is now extending the offer to non-Italians living abroad as well. Due to the dwindling population, the community has seen shops, restaurants and amenities shut and its only school is facing closure. Last year there were 40 deaths in the town but just 10 babies were born, with a similar ratio in previous year

Chicago State police department confirm that they are expanding the search area for surveillance video of actor Jussie Smollett's alleged attackers. Already, Chicago police say they have "reviewed hundreds of hours of video" as they search for footage of the reported attack on actor Jussie Smollett. They've now expanded their search to the Chicago riverfront, Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. Two seat cushions have been found washed up on a beach in north west France and investigators believe the seats are from the missing plane carrying Cardiff City footballer Emiliano Sala which disappeared over the English Channel. Search crews have been scouring the sea around the Channel Islands since the Piper Malibu being flown by pilot Dave Ibbotson disappeared on Monday, January 21. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch said today: On the morning of Monday 28 January, we were advised by the French safety investigation authority, that part of a seat cushion had been found on a beach near Surainville on the Cotentin Peninsula.  A second cushion was found in the same area later that day. From a preliminary examination we have concluded that it is likely that the cushions are from the missing aircraft.

Early this morning, the Nigerian government received another batch of 162 Nigerians stranded in Libya. The returnees were received at 3:30am on Wednesday by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.   They were returned via Libyan Airlines. Idris Muhammed, the Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office of NEMA, received the returnees on arrival at the cargo wing of the airport. The returnees consisted of 100 females, including four pregnant women and 62 males. After profiling, it was revealed that they included 82 adult females, 13 female children, five female babies, 50 male adults, four boys and 13 male babies.Two of the returnees had medical cases and were taken away in an ambulance. Commenting on the latest returnees, Muhammed decried the huge number of Nigerians stranded in the North African country. He enjoined the returnees to be agents of positive change and take up the challenge again

On Monday, members of the Lagos state house of Assembly threatened to begin impeachment proceedings against the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, over allegations of gross misconduct.  According to the state lawmakers, Ambode who lost out on having the APC governorship return ticket during the party's controversial governorship primaries in October last year, has been spending money from the 2019 budget that he hasn't yet presented before the home. There are also allegations that Governor Ambode was silently funding the campaign of PDP governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje, with state funds. The lawmakers have given Governor Ambode seven-days to come himself to present the 2019 budget or face impeachment immediately. Lawyers have shunned the boycott order issued by the Nigerian Bar Association on Monday as a way to protest the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter onnoghen.  Cases are presently being heard at the Supreme Court with Justice Mary Peter-Odili presiding. The lawyers had taken a decision to boycott the courts yesterday after staging a protest at the entrance of the Nigerian Bar Association NBA over Onnoghen's suspension.

Last week, it was reported that a pregnant girl who was allegedly raped by her father and an NGO worker died in an accident on their way to court (read  here ). It has now been revealed that the girl's father, who is responsible for her pregnancy, has now retracted his guilty plea, following her death. Jacob Alonge, a native doctor who is known for his diabolical powers, was accused of impregnating his own daughter, Gift, multiple times and even aborting the pregnancy once. The latest pregnancy is what led to him being charged with incest. The 54-year-old pleaded guilty to the rape of his 17-year-old daughter. He was to be sentenced following the guilty plea. However, on getting to the court for the sentencing, he changed his guilty plea after he got information that his daughter, her uncle, and the NGO workers who were working on her case all got involved in an accident on the way to the magistrates’ court in Benin City, Edo State and all died. Transparency International has just released a new list of countries ranked highest in corruption practices. Nigeria scored 27 over 100, and was ranked 144/180 countries studied. Somalia, a country located at Sub-Saharan Africa was listed as the highest country with the highest corruption report. It scored 10 over 100 and was raked 180 out of 180 countries analyzed. However, Denmark, a country located at Western Europe & European Union scored 88 over 100 and was ranked 1st and the best country with a ‘No’ or little corruption report.   The 2018 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) released by Transparency International reveals that the continued failure of most countries to significantly control corruption is contributing to a crisis of democracy around the world. Twitter has done its thing again as a woman who was looking for her long lost brother, who was given up for adoption 17 years ago, found him after she took her search to Twitter. @nessaaf_18 shared photos of her brother and tweeted that she would love to find him. She said that her mum lost control of her and her two siblings and all three of them were placed in a foster home. Later, her father was able to take control of her and her sister but he couldn't take her brother Joey (Ramon Joseph Perez) because he isn't his biological child.  The boy was given up for adoption and for 17 years, they heard nothing from or about him.
