Here's why Meghan Markle always walks slightly behind Prince Harry even when they are holding hands
People have noticed that Meghan Markle is always seen walking slightly behind Prince Harry during public engagements and the reason for that has been revealed.
Whether they're holding hands or simply walking side-by-side, Harry has consistently been seen taking the lead. Etiquette expert William Hanson said it hints at deep respect for the monarchy. Meghan's stance proves she "as a non-blood royal, should defer to born royalty".
William Hanson told MailOnline:
It is standard practice for British royalty to allow the 'blood royal' to walk or stand a few paces in front of the royalty who has married in to the family, as with HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and TRH The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.Even though TRH the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently presenting their own, informal, tactile interpretation of British monarchy, they are still adhering to the precedent with Meghan knowing she, as a non-blood royal, should defer to born royalty.
Harry and Meghan have stuck to this protocol all through their 16-day Pacific tour.
